Buzz Builders PR and social media

Building Buzz for Technology Startups

Located in Seattle, we are the PR engine for some of the most successful technology startups in the Pacific Northwest. With startup savvy expertise, genuine enthusiasm for new technology, and a holistic approach to PR and social media, we're solely focused on building emerging technology companies into market leaders.

We know what it takes to successfully launch new companies, products, and market segments. The founders, Deanna Leung Madden and Michele Mehl, have 32 years of combined experience working in-house at companies such as SPRY, Aventail, and as well as at Silicon Valley PR agencies that helped launch early Internet successes such as Autonomy, Inktomi, and Sendmail. Unlike the big agencies, we have a team of passionate professionals who all have 10+ years of experience. This means we can “build the buzz” for your company and products by doing everything from strategy and planning to day-to-day PR and social media tactics.

Tech-Savvy Experience That Matters for Emerging Technology Companies

Deanna Leung Madden

With 18 years of corporate marketing experience, Deanna Leung Madden has shown demonstrated success in building start-ups into market leaders. Prior to founding Buzz Builders, Deanna ran the corporate marketing departments for a number of innovative startups including Aventail, Compuserve's Internet Division, and SPRY—each leading to major acquisitions by key players in their respective industries. At Aventail, Deanna defined a new product category called SSL VPNs and within a few years positioned the company as a market leader with 22 major awards, including Network World's 50 Most Powerful People in Networking, Network Magazine's Product of the Year, Computerworld's Emerging Company, Network Computing's Editor's Choice Award, and being named the leader in Gartner's magic quadrant for four years in a row. Prior to Aventail, Deanna was the marketing director for CompuServe's Internet Division, where she launched their Internet Service business. In less than 12 months, SPRYNet catapulted from a non-player to the #2 position and was recognized as the fastest growing Internet service. In the early 90's, Deanna drove the PR initiatives at SPRY and introduced the first Internet software solution, Internet In A Box. SPRY received thousands of pieces of coverage in various media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, CNN, PC Magazine, CNet as well as other popular consumer and industry trade publications. The company's extensive press coverage played an instrumental role in CompuServe's acquisition of SPRY for $100 million -- the Internet industry's largest acquisition during that time period.

Deanna holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Washington.
